Agents and Humans – the agentic future
Now that AI has been around for some years, the honeymoon days are over, and it is time to look beyond the hype and look at its actual performance and the real value it delivers. As research shows, GenAI is not at a point where it generates much value yet. However, Agentic AI is delivering on its promise of increasing productivity and disrupting processes.
There is a consensus that Agentic AI should not be trusted at this stage of its maturity. It should not make autonomous decisions. It can predict outcomes and present options based on analysis and instructions, but the human in the loop must take the final decision. Although not autonomous, the agents will help speed up the process dramatically.
There are many tools out there that will let you build agents. But to control, source, deploy, monitor and govern agents in a secure and scalable way, there aren’t many tools in the markets that let you do that, especially on enterprise level. To combine multiple agents in agentic workflows, there are even less. And to enrich these agentic workflows with human activities there is only one: OutSystems, a unified development platform that combines agents, workflows, web and mobile apps, and integrates with backend systems (SAP, CRM, data lakes).

This has distinct advantages. One is that you only need one skill set to develop all the above. Another one is that your agents get compiled in the same proven, secure way as a regular OutSystems application – and can be deployed in the same controlled way, without having to worry about cloud hosting and the associated cost. And another one is that you can use any LLM in the market, like OpenAI and Claude, but also add your custom built LLMs. There are many LLMs out there, and some of these will not make it, but this way you can easily change between LLMs, without needing to change your workflows or frontends.
And it is fast: building the agent as shown above took me five minutes, adding it to below screen was another five minutes.

If you don’t know what OutSystems is: it is a high value low code platform, ideal for rapid application development. It shines in integration, and is fit for building complex, enterprise-grade applications at tremendous speed. There are no limits to what you can build, full ERP systems have been built in OutSystems.
